On the north side of the Choctawhatchee Bay in the quaint town of Freeport, the Bay Loop Trail is a paved multi-use trail similar to the Timpoochee Trail along Scenic 30A. Beginning at the intersection of East Bay Loop Road (County Highway 83A) and Highway 20, the trail winds through pine forests and over numerous creeks that skirt the Choctawhatchee Bay. The trail takes hikers, bikers and joggers past the historic Freeport shipyard, which was the hub of this city when settlers came to the area in 1830. Trailheads and parking areas are located at the southwest corner of the Freeport Sports Complex.
